Student Presentation: Intradiscal BMAC Injections Reduce Pain for Degenerative Disc Disease
Study by Nathan Davies:
"Low back pain, often caused by degenerative disc disease (DDD), is one of the most common reasons for primary care and orthopedic office visits. Current treatment options center around reducing inflammation and fail to address the underlying pathology. Concentrated bone marrow aspirate (BMAC) injections, along with conservative management, represent a cost-effective and minimally invasive treatment option that could postpone further disc degeneration. Our hypothesis is that BMAC injections, along with conservative care, can provide short and long term pain reduction in patients with DDD."
This was presented at The Idaho WWAMI Research Exposition at the WWAMI Medical Education Building in Moscow, ID on October 29, 2021. Mr. Davies was awarded honorable mention for the clinical outcomes category. Congratulations!
Student Presentation: Conservative Management of Knee Osteoarthritis Utilizing Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate
Study by Braeden Leiby:
"Bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC), along with conservative patient management, offers a minimally invasive option in treating chronic pain from knee osteoarthritis. Knee osteoarthritis affects35% of adults aged 65 years and older. BMAC has been shown to decrease inflammation and improve cartilage signal on MRI. We hypothesize BMAC injections, along with conservative care, will provide short- and long-term relief of pain associated with knee osteoarthritis."
This was presented at The Idaho WWAMI Research Exposition at the WWAMI Medical Education Building in Moscow, ID on October 29, 2021. Mr. Leiby won the Outstanding Clinical Outcomes Based Research Award. Congratulations!

Dr. Joseph McGinley, a musculoskeletal radiologist specializing in sports medicine, has
been successfully using diagnostics to inform Botox injections in patients with chronic exertional compartment syndrome for about eight years. “With Botox, because the muscles are so large that we’re treating, we’re using very precise injections and
developed a diagnostic protocol to allow us to specifically target the area of the muscle where the problem’s occurring,” he says.
